Tariffs and energy dispatch

For supported configurations, EnergyFlow can compare a rule-based dispatch with an optimizer that minimizes cost. The result uses modeled hourly demand and the tariff data available to that run.

Fixed and dynamic tariffs

A fixed tariff uses the import and export prices entered for the scenario. A dynamic tariff uses the day-ahead price zone of your country and the product's tariff assumptions for network fees and VAT.

Rules versus the optimizer

Rule dispatch follows a fixed priority for available PV, demand, battery, EV and grid flows. The optimizer minimizes modeled energy cost over rolling 24-hour windows while carrying battery state between windows. It schedules electrical battery and EV flows. Thermal demand is fixed from the thermal run, so the optimizer does not actively schedule slab temperature or pool-water setpoints.

The result is an optimization over supplied model inputs, not a promise that a physical home controller will reproduce it.

Example question and package

For example, compare rule dispatch with the optimizer, using the same battery, EV schedule, hourly demand and supported dynamic tariff. Inspect grid cost and energy flows. Dynamic-tariff modeling is included in both paid plans. Full Project includes scenario comparison and hourly CSV export. See pricing for what each plan includes.

What a bill comparison needs

  • A dated import and export tariff, with fees and taxes represented accurately.
  • The same weather, household demand, equipment and comfort settings across alternatives.
  • A price-year match for real-year weather. Typical-year runs use a reference price series.
