Efficient homes

Summer comfort in an efficient home

A high energy rating does not say whether a particular bedroom stays comfortable during a heatwave. The rating and a dynamic temperature simulation answer different questions.

Look at gains and heat removal

Glazing, orientation, external shading, internal gains, ventilation and outdoor night temperatures all affect summer response. Insulation reduces heat transfer through the envelope, but it also slows heat leaving the building.

Use the right level of detail

EnergyFlow represents floors and distinct zones rather than every room. Its floor-level temperature cannot answer whether a bedroom corner is comfortable. Use the result to compare envelope and system choices, then check room-specific concerns with a suitable design professional.
