Example setup

Example setup: changing the heating system

Question: under one weather and comfort basis, how do purchased fuel, heat-pump electricity and backup heat compare? This page defines an educational setup; it does not report a completed simulation.

Describe the baseline

  • Existing fuel and boiler efficiency assumptions, with a dated fuel price.
  • Building envelope and the heating setpoint schedule.
  • Hot-water demand and any modeled distribution or storage assumptions.

Define the heat-pump alternative

  • A supported heat-pump configuration and its performance data source.
  • Emitter type and flow temperature, with backup-heater assumptions.
  • The same weather, comfort and hot-water demand as the baseline.

Report separately

Show useful heat, purchased fuel, heat-pump electricity, backup-heater electricity and operating cost as separate quantities. Installation cost, maintenance and subsidies need their own sourced assumptions.
