Example setup

Example setup: summer comfort

Question: for this house and weather file, how do external shading and a cooling system change modeled temperatures and electricity use? This is a setup for a comparison, not a completed run.

Hold these inputs steady

  • Manual floor geometry, construction-year assumptions and reviewed U-values.
  • Glazing area by outside face, orientation and shading state.
  • Location, weather basis, occupancy and household schedule.
  • The same comfort targets across each alternative.

Change one thing at a time

Start with the current shading assumptions. Compare an external-shading alternative, then compare supported ventilation and active cooling. Keep weather and schedules fixed so the result can be attributed to the change.

Inspect

  • Zone temperature over time and the stated overheating threshold.
  • Cooling demand and cooling electricity where available.
  • The selected tariff and the time period used for the cost calculation.
